Who are we and why do we do what we do?
We update our social media platforms, add content to our website, have two parenting series’ on YouTube and a podcast, but every now and then the question comes up… Who are you, and why do you do what you do? Sometimes it is asked by other people, but sometimes as a charity we ask this question ourselves, and it’s a crucial one. It brings us back to the start of our story and the values we hold central to all we do.
So, let me introduce us to you.
We are The National Parenting Initiative. We are a Christian signposting charity, with a vision to encourage churches to support and empower parents. We don’t write parenting courses or materials ourselves, but we signpost to great courses that we believe can help strengthen any family. Most of the courses are accessible to people of all beliefs or none.
But when did you begin and who runs the charity now?
We were launched at Holy Trinity Brompton Church in London in 2012 as a united movement spearheaded by the leaders of different denominations. We became a charity in 2016 and are now based in the South West.
We are led by our extraordinary Co-ordinator, Jane Auld, who you can read about here. She is supported by a team of Trustees, two part time staff and two volunteer Regional Teams.
Surely parenting courses are just for people who desperately need them.
This is simply not true! We wholeheartedly believe that parenting courses and other parenting resources (for example; one off online seminars, books, podcasts etc) are for absolutely any parent to take time to think about how they parent and why, learn some tips from people further along on the journey and to ask advice on navigating particular seasons of parenting.
Ok, but what exactly do you do?
We do all we can to encourage parents through our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) and have launched two series’ on our YouTube Channel, and have a podcast. We also update our Blog with encouraging posts.
Central to our values is the Bible verse Malachi 4 v 6, “He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers”. Our hope and vision is to see families strong, empowered and supported. It’s as simple as that.
We plan to continue our work online, as well as add to it through regional online ‘Vision Events’ which will give the opportunity to provide parents and church leaders with information on courses and resources to support them and their community. (If you would like us to host one for your area, please get in touch with Kayte at firstname.lastname@example.org)
